- The only difference between server and cloud is in terms of specifications. In case of server, the resources (storage, bandwidth, processor, RAM, etc.) are defined upfront. So, server has well defined resource specifications and monthly / annual costs. Cloud denotes servers that have flexibility in terms specifications and as businesses scale up or down, specifications can be quickly upgraded or downgraded. This flexibility comes at a price and cloud is generally more expensive as compared to an equivalent dedicated or virtual private server.
